Shared Creative Vision

The client wanted to use LYNNEL artwork to provide a calming, aesthetically beautiful, integrated visual experience, including a clear wayfinding system throughout the 9-story building.

The team had a desire to work with one, single artist to fulfill the comprehensive coordinated art package.

The vision was to use original artwork representing local medicinal plants of New England

Project Scope

Each floor had a unique corresponding plant and colorway scheme to provide clear and calming wayfinding queues.

We strove for consistency in every aspect of the individual floors — hallways, elevator lobbies, nurses’ stations, and signage.  On each floor one version of the plant was backlit in the elevator lobby to impart a glowing dimensional effect.  A new artform inspired by this project, an etched printmaking approach, was used on a coordinated version of the plant at the nurses station.

In fulfilling the hospital’s request that each entrance make a strong aesthetic statement we created an impressive two-story feature wall that greets people at the main entrance.  The artwork was created to read as one image, but produced and installed as megatiles to maintain safety and retain the digital image quality.

Additional coordinating images were used to provide a translucent artwork for a meditation chapel, a bright backlit artwork for a long articulated corridor leading to a restaurant, a color-modified and cropped set of images to integrate with the stone wall for another corridor, and white on white imagery to provide the desired level of privacy in waiting rooms and nurses’ station divider panels.

In all, 70 images were created, drawing inspiration from medicinal plants of New England.  The trust between the client and LYNNEL was significant in actualizing the vision.

Shared Creative Vision

The design team envisioned using LYNNEL’s original artwork in unique ways to create a cohesive aesthetic throughout the center.

The design needed to create a welcoming and soothing environment for patients, their families and clinic staff.

Project Scope

Three distinct artworks were selected and color modified to work together, as well as work with the finishes throughout the building.

To accommodate the architectural requirements of the main feature wall a large-scale panorama was created from original artwork.   Images were cropped to work with the divider panel and back-lit panel specifications, without losing integrity of the aesthetic value.

Working with the client on different options for opacity we achieved the ideal degree for their desired level of privacy and light transmission.

The Behavioral Health and Wellness Clinic is a beautifully designed facility that showcases how art and design can successfully blend. The collaboration between LYNNEL and Mohagen Hansen was key to the successful outcome.
